Why Write A Story?

The bookstore manager kept looking at the undecided buyer whose eyes were sweeping through the bookshelf. The manager then took a book and gave him: "You must find this interesting," he said.

But the buyer quickly looked at the book and tossed it back to him: "Hungry author, not worth my dollars."

And that brings the question, "Why do authors write books?"

According to Clarence Day, "The world of books is the most remarkable creation of man." He said that while people die, empires collapse, and civilizations come and go, books remain to tell the story.

But why write at all?

The first reason is that some write as a hobby. These authors just want to give vent to the Muse for pleasure.

The second us that other people write to advance their career. These authors see it as a requirement to earn some higher degress or to advance in their chosen carer.

The third reason is that some writers write to increase their social status. These ones want like to hang out with fellow authors and take advantage of the benefits that come their way.

The last reason is that some authors  write for money. These writers just want to write their way out of poverty.

So you see, there are many reasons for writing. Therefore, just before you hand a "hungry author" a meal ticket, know that  he may just as well have written for fun or to advance his social status.
