Tell
us a little about yourself
I am a novelist, playwright, scriptwriter, and essayist.
I also do ghostwriting, manuscript editing, and blogging.
Where
did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
I grew up in the countryside, and loved the rivers and
the forests. So I like to probe God and His works in my writings.
What
is your writing process?
I take time dreaming about my story, and taking notes.
Then when the story is fully developed, I do an outline, and begin writing. I
can write from one page to ten pages at a time. It may take me weeks or months
to finish writing a story, sometimes years. I used to write the old-fashioned
way with pen and paper, but I am now typing my story straight into the
computer. After I finish the story, I begin rewriting.
Do
you remember the first story you ever wrote?
I started writing way back in college. My first story was
"A Tale of Two Lovers." I wrote several works including plays at the
time, just for the fun of it. Sadly, I have lost all of my early manuscripts.
Who
are your favorite authors?
I love Charles Dickens, the English author, for his
descriptive and vivid prose. He was a great influence on me when I was young.
But in my later days, I have come to love the works of Dan Brown, the American
mystery writer. He is a master of suspense. The mysteries and clues in his
books inspired my mystery novel, "The Hunt for the Tree of Life."
Do
you remember the first story you ever read, and the impact it had on you?
I remember reading the simplified and illustrated
"Gulliver's Travels" written by Jonathan Swift, as a child. I was
fascinated by those strange lands that Gulliver visited. It challenged my
imagination. This story and other simplified works like Charles Dickens'
"Oliver Twist," Mark Twain's "The Adventures of Tom
Sawyer," and Robert Louis Stevenson's "Treasure Island" fired my
ambition to be a writer.
When
you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
I like nature. I like walking the woods and the beaches.
I also like listening to music.
What
do you read for pleasure?
I read comic stories, jokes and cartoons. I love to read
sections of newspapers and magazines that discuss people and cultures in other
lands.
What
book marketing techniques have been most effective for you?
Book marketing is a Sisyphean task. I publish press
releases and share them on social networking sites. The releases attract
readership and they get shared by the readers.
What's
the story behind your latest book?
I was moved to write the mystery novel, "The Hunt
for the Tree of Life" after contemplating the transience of life. I
wondered why a solution cannot be found for death. If there was ever a tree of
life in Eden, it could be discovered and used to fix death. Like the title of
the book, I wrote it sitting under a tree over an extended period of time. Yes,
it was not the sought-after tree of life but the adventurers will prove in the
series of the book to come, whether the search will be fruitful or if it will
turn out to be a journey of lost souls!
Where
can readers find your books?
My works are available on Amazon and Smashwords in
various reading formats and in most online bookstores.
What
motivated you to become an indie author?
It's a tall order getting attention by the traditional
publishers. I queried dozens of agents for representation but got polite
rejection mails even though I have a great story. So I decided to go indie
hoping to be discovered like other fortunate authors.
What
is the greatest joy of writing for you?
I am thrilled when readers download and read samples of
my book. It gives me more pleasure when they order a copy because it means that
the reader appreciates my story.
What
do your fans mean to you?
I love to have a solid fan base. It is my fans that would
spread word about my work to other readers.
Which
of your books do you like best?
That's a hard question. But you can catch me reading
"The Hunt for the Tree of Life." I did a lot of research in that
story and put in my best. I plan to write 3-5 series. It will be my magnum
opus.
Which
of your books sell the most?
I have written fiction, non-fiction, and a play. The
non-fiction titles sell more than the fiction. My bestselling book, however, is
the writing handbook, "How to Write a Bestseller" followed by the
suspense thriller, "The Hunt for the Tree of Life."
What's
your latest work?
I recently published the "Janus."
What
are you working on next?
"The Hunt for the Tree of Life" book three.
